I'm asking this for a friend. He's thinking of putting videos up on YouTube and wants to know if he could do so with his camcorder. So, could you upload videos from a video camera onto your computer (so you can upload them onto a website)?

Thanks a bunch.

P.S. If the answer is yes, please explain how or direct me to a place that will tell me how to do it.

Thanks again. = )

  1. Yes.

MiniDV tape or Digital 8 tape use firewire to transfer. Computer needs a firewire port, too - USB will not work.

Hard drive or flash memory use USB to copy files or take the memory card out of the camcorder and use a card reader.

DVD based camcorder - load the DVD to the computer's DVD drive and rip the video with HandBrake:

All others, use an analog/digital bridge like those from Pinnacle or Canopus.

You did not tell us what kind of camcorder, what kind of computer, what you will edit with... Windows MovieMaker; Apple iMovieHD.
