I don't want to use Alfred, but love Alfie. Can Alfie be a full name for a boy? Or any other full name suggestions...?

  1. yes of course!!

people don't think twice about naming their children daft things! and i think that Alfie is nice... my brothers friend has a son called Alfie and not Alfred :)

  2. I know an Alphonse who goes by Alfie. Not terrific, but certainly better than Alfred.

I wouldn't use Alfie by itself, it doesn't sound very professional.

    Alfie is really cute though.

( So was Jude Law playing Alfie)

The name Jude is cute too!

  3. I think Alfie is adorable!

Alfred seems a bit old fashioned to me (that may be because my great grandad is named that though!)

However Alfie sounds like a modern, lovely name :)

When I read your question, I was thinking "What even is the full version of Alfie" so I think that prooves it is absolutely fine as a full name x

  4. well prince harry wasnt christened henry was he?

think about it and ask yourself, who is going to say"you cant"

you can do whatever you like call him sue how do you do

  5. Who says you can't?  It's your kid and your decision. Just like instead of Lillian some people just use Lily.  Whatever you want works. =]

  6. You can use whatever you want. It's your kid; your decision.

  7. Some people do, but it's a bit rubbish to use a diminutive for a proper name.

Would it hurt you to call the child a proper name for its birth certificate, and then shorten it later?

It's a bit like people who actually put names down as Billy (not William) or Bobby (not Robert).

It just makes the child look stupid when it grows up and has to apply for jobs etc with a baby name.

  8. Sure, you can pretty much name your kid whatever you want.

That said, Alfie is a pretty awful name.  Please reconsider, that poor child is going to hate it.

  9. Yep, my ex boyfriends brother was caled Alfie :)

  10. You honestly can name the baby whatever you want. BUT...most people that see that will automatically think his real name is Alfred anyway. It's only good as a nickname to be honest. Think about his future. No one would vote for Obama if his name was Alfie Obama, would they? It's baby-ish. It's not strong, and he'll never be taken seriously. Good luck.

  11. Yes, of course you can.  I know lot's of Alfie's and thats there name not Alfred.

  12. Well, people call their kids Nevaeh so you can call yours Alfie! Personally, I would call him Alfred then shorten it to Alfie. Alfie sounds cute now, but when he's applying for jobs it would look better to be called Alfred.

  13. Yes of course! I like Alfie better anyway so go for it!

  14. Personally, I hate the name Alfie (and Alfred) but you can use whatever name you like.

  15. My cats called Alfie ... i have put a few people off because i called the cat Alfie ..but i think its cute for a boy too

  16. i think you should give him a full name

    maybe like alfonse or alfonso

alfred is cute you could also call him freddie

but yes it could be a full name if you wanted it to be

  17. Yes you can. Alfie is in the top 10 boys names.

I would name him Alfred though cos that way it can also be shortened to Alfie, Fred or Freddie. There are so many Afie's out there, he may be glad of another name he could use when he is older.

  18. Yes of course.

  19. You can use Alfie as a full name.  You don't have to let it be a nickname for some other name you don't like and you don't have to add another name with it.  Not everyone has a middle name.

  20. You could but it is more of a nickname than an actual full name. Plus, if he turned out to be prime minister, a prime minister called alfred sounds better than alfie..

  21. I like just plain Alfie. No Alfred ~ I agree!

  22. You have to consider how the name is going to sound on a grown man.  Would Alfie Landon have been nominated to run for president?

Could there be a more perfect name  for the irresponsible cad for whom the movie, Alfie was named.  Believe me there are a lot of people whose first thought will be that movie when they hear the name Alfie.

If you really don't like any of the adult names that diminutize to Alfie why not go the other way and name him Alf and call him Alfie while he's little and cute.

Or you could name him Alfalfa.  (Middle name Spanky?)

  23. Yeah, im sure you can use just Alfie and i totally agree with the Alfred thing, Alfie is really cute xD

  24. research shows that all names ending in the sound 'ie' or 'ee' are the cutest...... Alfie is definitely cute and a proper full modern name... go for it!!!

  25. It would be a great middle name....
