  1. I would try cleaning the fountain really good and then try adding a little pool bleach to the water. They sell pretty cheap chlorine tablets for swimming pools at Wal-mart. You could break up the tablets and add a little chunk to the water from time to time. It would help control the algae build up, and birds and other animals could still drink the water without dieing from it.

  2. look in the phone book in your area and find a company that specializes in fountains either assembling or cleaning ask them what they use or what is safe to use, also lowes has products that resemble the drop ins only smaller that are made for fountains

  3. it would work as far as getting enuf chlorine into the fountain to kill the algae, depending on the size of the fountain, but do any animals drink out of it?

u could kill o0ff birds, dogs, cats, lizards, whatever, and thats just what mite be drinking out of it in the daylite hours, bats, rats, mice, racoons, possums, owls, any whatever u can think of.

if u have algae, try going to a pet fish store,  aquarium, or whatever, they have different liquids u can throw into teh water which should clear it up and not poison whatever mite drink out of it, unless of course u r looking to clean up little dead animals around your beautiful clear fountain on a regular basis =)

    luck

if its really bad, try emptying it out, letting it dry for a couple of days in the sun, and scrubbing it out, even with chlorine, then rinsing teh heck out of it and filling it again, using the anti algae stuff from then on.of course if its a big enuf fountain, u could always throw in some snails or a plecostamus(fish that eats algae) adn maybe even some gold fish, what teh heck.

  4. i wouldnt because birds might like to bathe in them and you dont want to kill all those birds that were just trying to bathe!!

or if u really wnat to just drop some tablets in and put a net around it so the birds cant get in them and then just change out the water.... and take the net off..

  5. I would not suggest you doing that, not because of the animals but because if put too much the clorox tablets can become corrosive and leave behind unwanted residue.
