Can you use Direct TV in other countries

  1. Direct TV and Dish Network use satellites with "spot beams" that cover geographic areas.  If you took your system out of North America, chances are you would be out of the beam or "footprint" of the satellites and would get very little.

  2. No.  Satellite TV providers need to always have their signal accessible to a specific geographic region.  This means the satellites are in a geostationary orbit - i.e. always above the same geographic region.

    The same is true for other satellite based content providers like XM and Sirius.

    You *might* get some reception in say, Canada or Mexico, but you won't be able to get too far away.
