Question:

Can you use a 2nd wireless router to provide a ethernet jack for a device I need to plug in?

I have a Verizon FIOS broadband connection with their provided wireless router. This is installed on the 3rd floor of my home. I need to get an ethernet jack to the 1st floor for a device I am setting up. Can I add a wireless router on the 1st floor that will connect to the 3rd floor router (the one receiving the service) and just use it to extend the signal and provide wired access to the 1st floor?

Any tips on how to do this if it is possible?

  1. If I read your questions right, you should be able to buy a repeater that would extend your range. If not, try the "N" type wireless router.

  2. If you run an Ethernet Cable to the first floor than you could plug that cable directly into a second wireless router. But if your wireless signal is strong enough to reach from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor than you could save yourself the trouble of running a wire and just use a repeater then just run a cable from your Repeater to your new device.

  3. Lets see if i can tackle this...

You can take a long ethernet cable (a straight-through cable not cross over) and connect to the 1st floor wireless router this will produce another wireless signal but it can also act as a hub and provide more ports for wired access on the first floor

    that should work for ya

any questions gimme an email or message

  4. You cannot chain off router-to-router connections.

    Simply get a 'bridge'.

Its a wireless antenna which you can put on your first floor and it connects to the router wirelessly providing an ethernet jack.
