Question:

Can you use a Green Dot Card to pay off a credit card?

It asks for an account number and a routing number, but Green Dot only provides the routing number in conjunction with Columbia Bank and Trust. I was wondering if there was an account number that I can use or am I out of luck.

  1. I'm not quite sure I understand your question.  I assume that you have a Green Dot Card with a balance on it that you want to use to pay off a credit card balance.  With all of my credit cards, the only way that you can pay them off online is from a checking account, not from another credit card.  In my opinion, your easiest way would be to go to an ATM and get either cash or a money order.  Mail the money order to the credit card company or deposit the cash into a checking account, if you have it, and mail the check.  Or, just use the credit card companies web site to pay the credit card once the cash is deposited into a checking account, if you have one.

The bottom line is that debit cards such as Green Dot, weren't really designed to pay off credit cards.  Credit cards can pay off credit cards through balance transfers but that's a different situation than this.
