  1. It all depends how strong a hook you actually have.  By adjusting my finger position  and speed when I release, I can pick up both the 7 and 10 pins on normal lane conditions.  When lanes are oily or dry I pull out my 2nd ball which hooks far less.

The only way to get the spares with your new ball is to go out and practice, get suggestions from who ever drilled it would be the best way to go.

  2. yes it can.. I throw a hooking ball and i throw it at all of my spares.. the only difference is in your hand position instead of having a cupped or straight hand position you could go with the "broken wrist" hand position.. (where your wrist is pretty much bent bacward... if that don't work try your ten pins at trying to throw a backup ball.

    I hope it helps.

  3. What you should do is use the hook ball for strike shots, and the straight balls for spare shots, thats what most pros and almost every truly "good" bowler does. Not necassarily straight for multipin conversions but single pins definatly, but its truly how comfortable you feel with it, anything can be done with any bowling ball, you just have to know how to throw it.

  4. Well, most spares should be learned from the opposite side of the lane towards the pin anyway which requires a bit of a hook.  If you have a hooking bowling ball, you will be looking to hook for most spares, you will almost never find yourself needing to bowl straight.

Say there is a 7 spare, and you are a righty.  You would stray a bit right and hook it over.  If there is a 10 or a 9 (more likely 9) you would stay on your left bowl through maybe the 3rd arrow on the left on an angle with hook, and your ball will stray and come back for the pin.  So really, get used to the hook and there will be no need anyway.

  5. ABSOLUTELY

all you have to do is break ur wrist and i also spread my index and pinky finger out

    ball will go dead straight

norm duke doesnt have a spare ball

if u watch him on tv he shoots his spares straight but with his strike/hook ball
