I am setting up my registry. I was wondering if I could use a play yard as a bassinet? If not I am just going to get a bassinet. If I can use a play yard as a bassinet that seems like a good deal.

Thanks everyone.

This is my first and I know hardly anything about baby stuff!

  1. They do sell play yards that are bassinets as well.

  2. My daughter really likes her Graco pack n play. she sleeps next to our bed in it.  it has a mobile and changing station which makes it convenient for middle of the night changes.  She loved the teddy bear mobile and it converts to a little playyard/bed for later so it's not only good for just 3 months but longer.  More bang for your buck in my opinion.

  3. They sell playards that can also be bassinets. We use one for our daughter. She is 3 1/2 months old. Here is a link to view some: http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?...

My daughter has slept well in it since she came home from the hospital. We keep it in our room and it has worked out very well and I like that it can also be used as a changing table. Its very versitile. Once she outgrows it, we plan on using the play yard.

  4. Yup, i have had two pack and plays, they both came with inserts for the bassinet, its the same size as the play yard, but it is up high.  I used this for both of my daughters the first few months, then they went in the crib. The pack n play was great and i still get use out of it 3 years later

  5. Yes you can. Most have a bassinet attachment that works up to someting like 18lbs also.

  6. I don't see why not. My son is almost a year old and I still put him in the pack and play for his naps, but for night time sleeping he is in his regular crib.

  7. get a pack n play, its a mobile baby crib and some of them have a bassinet that lays on top! i loved mine!

  8. well...im sure it wouldn't be as comforting. but i can't see why you couldn't  im sure the baby would be alot happier in a bassinet tho.

  9. If by play yard, you mean a pack'n'play or portable crib, then absolutely.  A newborn does not need a bassinet.  You will want something small enough to fit in your room with an adjustable height so you don't have to bend down very far to pick your baby up - you will get a sore back if you do.  Plus, as your baby grows, you can adjust the crib to his/her needs and size.  I think bassinets are nice, but not very economical as they only really last a month or so.

  10. well i know someone who uses it as a bed and that is wat i am planning on doing as well because it would be cheaper

  11. up to you, mother knows best

  12. have you seen the play yards with the add on bassinet, mobile, changing table, and side compartments? they're awesome! available at target, walmart, and babies r us. graco makes great ones. hope i helped!

  13. My son slept in his pack n play for the first month or 2 of his life. :)

  14. Some play yards come with bassinets

  15. Absolutely - and its cost effective too!  You will use the play pen part of the pack-n-play when your baby gets bigger!  congrats!

  16. As most people said, get a Pack'n'Play.  They have the bassinet and changing table along with mobile.  I had one for my daughter and it worked great for her to sleep in.

  17. I am sure that you can as long as it comes with the part that you clip on the sides that makes it not so deep. I mean you can just use it regular, but it will be hard on your back to be lifting the baby from that far down so often. I am sure that the baby will be up many times during the night at first.
