  1. Some models can be used both ways - but they will be specified as having such option.

  2. Under-mount sink is for granite/marble counters.  "Looks means Everything".  The rim or lip is much thinner and flatter on under-mount sinks to attach to the slab.  The faucet holes are supposed to go through the counter: again, looks better and more difficult.  Regular sink is designed to seal on its under surface.  I have seen (not often) the regular sink on slabs in its proper position on slab counters.  Things work best when used as intended.

  3. Sinks that are undermount models have the hardware in place to mount them under the countertop. Not all top mounts will have that, and may have shapes that will make areas that will be difficult to clean when you mount it in that fashion.

  4. you can as long as you have a way to secure the sink

  5. no   because the mounting systems are different.

  6. no, because the under counter mounting of an above counter sink will cause leaks aroung the lip of the sink

  7. No because there is a lip at the top of the sink and it is curved slightly so if you put it as an under mount sink it would stick down a little and there would be a slight gap between the counter top and the sink. The mounting system is also different but I am sure you could rig something to hold it up.
