  1. The GFCI outlet in your bathroom is only that way because of the national electrical code or NEC.  You will also find these in attics, garages, two in kitchens, outdoors, unfinished basements, and anywhere that is within six feet of a water source.  These outlets help protect you from shock if you use a three prong cord as in a hot neutral and ground.  If your straightener only has two prongs (hot and neutral) and you drop it in the tub it will shock you.  The buttons only trip when the ground and neutral touch in any way.  I'm an electrician and they did a lab in class where they burned a hot dog with a hot wire in one end and a neutral wire in another while plugged into a GFCI outlet. If the hot wire touches the neutral or the ground wire the breaker will trip.  The breaker will also trip if you draw too much power.  The outlet in your room is probably a 15 amp outlet and your straightener is not going to draw that much power it should say how many amps somewhere on it might be on the plug end or on the straightener itself.  If it says how many watts it is then use this equation (watts divided by 120 volts will equal amps)if the amps are greater that 15 then you may overload the circuit and the breaker should trip.  The only fire will be if you left it on sitting on the floor.  Electrically it will be just fine nice try though dad sorry.

  2. ha ha yes you can use it

  3. i always use both in my room and i've never had any problems

  4. The only reason you wouldn't be able to is if there are a lot of other power drawing appliances plugged into the same circuit which may be wired to several rooms. If that is the case there still isn't a big problem because the circuit breaker will pop if the load is too high. That will be the indication that you shouldn't use them in your room.

  5. NO U CAN USE IT ANYWHERE

  6. It doesn't matter. I plug my straightener in my room, and so far it hasn't caught on fire. ;)

  7. Yes, you can.

The outlets which have the buttons are called 'Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter' outlets and are required by building codes in many areas around the country.  A GFCI outlet monitors the amount of power flowing fron one outlet slot to the other and will cut power to the outlet if there appears to be a problem.

The reason why you'll find them in bathrooms, kitchens, basements, etc., is very simple and covers two-thirds the earth's surface...Water.  Water and live electrical outlets do not get along with each other...Shocking, isn't it?
