Can you use a universal remote control to progam an older vcr to record if you have the code?

YES! most universals have a booklet that have a code to put in for the device you want to control. You'll need to look and find your device and make for the code. If there are more than one code, try them all.

Usually.  I suppose it depends on how old the VCR is. If you can find the manual for the universal remote you want to buy online then check and see.

if you have the code then yeah, I use my Pocket pc to control my tv, vcr, and dvd player... it should be the same thing
