Can you use a universal video game cable to connect a dvd to a plasma HDTV and improve DVD quality

I am trying to connect from component (RGB) to HDMI, I wonder if this kind of cable will do the trick. Alternativaly, What about the upscaling dvd recorders?

i havent tried that but it probable wont work.  component out on a dvd player that is upscaled (from the factory) is only 1080i.  hdmi to hdmi is the only way to get 1080p.  you can buy upscalers but they get pricey.  you are better off getting a new one that has upscaling built into it.
