Can you use an Xbox 360 remote to control an HD TV? If you can, how?

I have an Xbox 360 and I'd like to use the remote for it to do stuff. We have 3 remotes to use but I'd like to only use one and know how to use it.

Is the remote a universal remote?

And does it come with a list of codes for programming it to work different TVs, dvd players and such?

That would be the only way to do it, I believe.
