Can you use an old rotary pulse dialling telephone on a phone line that uses tone dialling?

Alternatively, is there an easy way to switch between pulse and tone dialling at my discretion?

yes, for now, many central offices are still set up for pulse. This is changing, and pretty soon, all pulse dialing will be ancient history.

...you still can, we have an old rotary dial that still works.
