Can you use an original Xbox (not an XBOX 360) on its side, so that it is standing upright or will it break?

I'm rapidly running out of space, and I was wondering whether you can put an original Xbox on its side so that it's upright in order to save room. I know PS2s and Xbox 360 can work both horizontally and vertically, but can the original Xboxes? I don't want mine to break!
