Can you use anything to tell if your eyeglasses are polycarbonate?

Aside from trying to break them, is there anything that can be put on the lens to prove it polycarbonate? I did double check when I picked them up from the doctor. I want to make sure the lab did it. Thanks

  1. Even just tapping it with your fingernail gives a complete different sound than regular plastic lenses.

The polycarb actually sounds cheap...lol...it sounds kinda hollow compared to the regular CR39.

But you would need a plastic one beside it to compare when you aren't used to the sound.

  2. Easy!

Compare them to your old glass or plastic lenses. The curvature on the front of the lens is flatter. They also are lighter weight!

  3. you are absolutley right. these are the only set of eyes you will ever have, so PROTECT THEM!!

i would take them to a different doctors office than where you purchased them, and have them check to see if they are poly(using the method provided by the first person who answered).

i DO NOT recommend that you try to do this yourself. you run the risk of breaking your frame and scratching your lenses. its a quick and easy thing to check, IF YOU HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS TO DO THIS.

    good luck!!

  4. Drop the lenses and see if the make a high ringy sound... but thats only if you know what your listening for..

Your being very paranoid to be honest.... I would trust that the lad used polycarb... esp if its a well known lab... ask the dr where the glasses were made.  if you bought the, from a chain store, they to should have used polycarb...
