Is it too oily for your face? I've read such wonderful things about bio-oil, but it seems to have brought me out in lots of spots. Should I persevere, or go back to using normal moisturisers?

Please help

  1. Bio Oil is for specific areas - scars, stretch marks, ageing skin.  I don't think it is a good replacement for moisturiser.

  2. I wouldn't use it on your face because it is in fact mainly oil. Using this is going to clog up your pores there for give you spot or even make you brake out. It's great for your body as it smooths out rough edges (like elbows, knees ect) and as I'm sure you've read that it can minimize the appearance of scars and stretch marks. For your face go back to using your usual moisturizer but not too much at first to try and get rid of the excess oil. Also for your spots dab some tee-tree oil or toothpaste before you go to sleep to try and cool them down and try not to rub them too much either.

    Hope this helped!

  3. You should go back to your normal moisturiser.

  4. People told me a few things about that bio oil and i tried it but i found it to be very oily, it sits on your skin and doesn't absorbe even if you use very little and i found that it gives me spots, i think it clogs up your pours. Try Vitiman E cream, i find it excellent for spots and you can use it as a moisturiser and put it on before you put on your make up.

  5. yes and it's really good. you can use it on your face, in fact you can have a face massage with it. I use it but would use something less greasy in the day on my face.

  6. You can use bio-oil on your face.

Spots are fairly normal when you use a new product on your face.  Whenever you use a new product your skin needs time to get used to it and adapt to it.  Unless you have a severe reaction you should use a product for at least two weeks before deciding if it's for you as your skin will have got over it initial "shock" at the product by that time and got rid of most of the effects of previous products.

Chances are you have never used an oil based product on your face so your skin won't be used to it.

If you have oily skin adding oil will actually reduce the amount of oil your skin produces so you end up with a less oily skin!  In you have dry skin it will obviously reduce the dryness.

Use a tiny, tiny amount in the morning only. You don't need to moisturise at night.  Night time is when the skin repairs itself and the last thing it needs is more gunk.  If you need moisturisors at night your cleanser is too harsh.

Try applying it to slightly damp skin.

Your skin will settle down and then you can make a decision to carry on using it or not.

  7. I've never used Bio-Oil myself but i've heard it is for stretch marks and scarring, so i'm not sure if you should be using it on your face but more areas like thighs etc.  Try using something lighter on your face, i've used simple light moisturiser and also Nivea light, both are good especially as a base for make-up.  If your getting spots you definitely should stop using it.

  8. I have had the same problem as you. It's great for stretch marks and softening you skin but it is much too oily for your face - I have switched to a lightweight moisturiser and my face is much better now. But my breakout is still clearing up - slowly but surely.

So no - you shouldn't use bio-oil instead of a moisturiser.

  9. It can be used on the face, but if its causing spots then i'd stop using it because you might be doing more damage. Maybe just use it on you problem areas and see if that helps.

  10. Hello,

Yes, i have had an abundance of nice things about Bio-Oil.I tend to make myown products  this is what i do i mix them. but you could use bio-oil instead of moisturiser but it might be too oily for your face.

hope i helped you take care

  11. Dont use it on your face because i think its just meant to be for your body..

  12. There are 3 types of oil.

    Petroleum

    Plant based oil

    Animal based oil

ALL oil boils down to these THREE types of oil.

And yes, that does include Bio-Oil.

    Bio-Oil is oil...

It doesn't matter if you smear your face with duck fat or if you smear your face with vitamin e oil... The ONLY difference is the impurities in the oil base. THAT is what determines if it will cause spots or not.

Baby oil is nothing but Mineral Oil... the same stuff you use on furniture and on your cutting boards...

NORMAL moisturizers are EXACTLY THE SAME as your "Bio-Oil" the only difference is the origin of the oil, how it is processed, and what is added to it to help prevent spots.
