The butter that I'm using is vegan, but that doesn't matter, because it works just the same as regular butter. I usually use vegetable oil...but would butter work too?

  1. butter or oil?

you should never use either....putting butter or oil in the water puts a coating on the pasta...when you drain it, then put sauce on it, it's just gonna run off to some extent..

the proper way is: boil water, a pinch of salt...that's it...

strain it good...(cook aldente)...add your sauce.

    (Trust me, i'm sicilian)

    lol

  2. Yes, I normally use butter and salt.

  3. don't listen to the health fad freaks- butter is better

  4. yea and its amazing! sometimes if i don't have sauce for my spaghetti i use butter and salt. its delicious. you should try it!

  5. Yes and it's very tasty.

  6. You don't have to add anything!  I make pasta all the time without salt or oil!

  7. sure, why not? using a bit of oil in water boiling the spaget keeps it from clumping, as long as you rinse it afterwards....butter will do the same, it also contains oil.....

  8. I doubt it, the boiling point of butter is way less than water, along with the fact that it would taste disgusting and possibly be the un healthiest thing ever created.

  9. you don't need oil or butter.

Spaghetti, water, salt. Boil till 'al dente'.

    Add sauce, the end.

  10. I always boil spaghetti in water, not in vegetable oil.

  11. You don't boil in oil you fry or saute, you boil in water.  If you are talking about sauteing yes you can use butter but be aware that the butter will burn faster than oil so you have to watch.

  12. i've never heard of adding either when boiling pasta, and i'm italian!!  lol  AND i worked in an italian restaurant for 8 years

really tho, when we make it, we just add a little salt for taste.  so long as you stir it regularly (like once every few minutes) it wont stick at all

  13. Whats wrong with just water?  Olive oil is always good too.

  14. This is how you make the best spaghetti, its my families secret recipe. We call it daddy's spaghetti. So you boil your spaghetti, dump the water out, then put the heat on lo and put a little less than a half stick of butter. I know that you cant eat cheese, but if there is some sort of fake one, then get like parmesean cheese and just put like 3/4 cups of that. I hope it taste yummy. I you cant eat the cheese, or cant find it. Just use the butter, im sure it would taste good. Good luck, i always love hearing people respect animals so much!

  15. Giada Delaurentis recommends NOT using oil in the water because the sauce just slides off the noodles if you do. I tried it, and as long as you stir the spaghetti noodles while they boil on a fairly regular basis, they don't stick to each other too much, and she's right about sauce sticking better.

After they sit in the colander without being served, THEN you have a sticky mess on your hands, but hopefully if people are hungry enough, there won't be much leftover.

  16. yes... I make macaroni n cheese by using butter rather than oil and I have to admit it, my mac n cheese taste better
