  1. I have tried just about everything, and I have found that those citronella candles actually tend to attract bugs. Especially flies. This new thing going around the net about listerene is bogus as well. I have yet to find anything that truly works when it comes to repelling bugs. Im sorry this answer is not very helpfull, but I too am still searching for an answer to this one.

  2. Yes you can.  It seems to be fairly common amongst people who make their own fly spray.  Start off with a little and add as you see your horses can stand it.  Sometimes citronella can "burn" the hair off your horse if it is too strong.

  3. yes you can and it works pretty well if you can stand the smell of it

  4. Yes, it makes a great repellent. I use it on my horses, as does everyone on our yard.

    Mix:

    1 part citronella oil

    8.5 parts water

    0.5 parts tea tree oil

The tea tree oil isn't essential, but we put it in ours because it's good for the skin. If you don't use it, just supplement that 0.5 with water.

Give it a good shake and put it in a spray bottle!
