The car worth about $38,000. I want to pay a partial payment e.g $12,000 with my credit card.

I just want to earn some mileage or points.

  1. You do realize you'll have the equivalent of two car payments a month then. One to the bank or finance company for the balance and one to your credit card company -- and you'll have TWO different interest rates.

    I'd rethink this strategy.

  2. ask your credit card company

  3. Yes you can! Good luck and have fun.

  4. We used a credit card to cover an initial down payment with the understanding a cashiers certified check would be forthcoming for the balance at the time of delivery.  This was done on two successive purchases about two years apart on  Certified Used Cadillacs from a most reputable used car dealer.

  5. I don't see why not.  I used it to pay for my down payment on the car.

As long as your credit card limit is high enough to cover the charge I don't see why that would be a problem.

  6. most car dealerships have a limit on how much you can put down with a credit card.  Ask your salesman...
