Can you use debit cards over the internet or to order out of a catalog and do you have to be 18 or older?

I know I sound retarded for asking this, but my mom told me that the internet and catalogs don't allow 3rd parties and minors are not allowed. But she says a lot of stupid c**p. Anyway I just got my first real job and my sister and I are talking about putting all of my money on a debit card under her name (she's 20 and I'm 16). So just trying to figure out some stuff, before I put my money somewhere I don't want :-)

You can use it wherever. I use my check card for whatever I want, and I dont need my moms permission.

debit card is fine most banks will allow you to open your own checking acccount with the atm /debit/check card attached. If it is your money or money you legally have the right to spend ie. your money in your sisters account then it is your to spend if your sisters name is on it legaly she can spend it too.
