Can you use electric motors with automatic transmissions?

Most of the DIY guides I've seen use clutchless manual transmissions, I've not seen any that use auto transmissions so I'm not sure if it is possible.

  2. Yes you can, but since electric motors have their highest torque at 0 rpm, (just like steam engines,) why bother.

    IF you size the motor correctly for the load, NO transmission is the best option in most cases.

    Perhaps a DC motor that has plenty of torque.

    And maybe put a planetary setup between the motor and trans.

  5. Yes you can but make sure you adapt a crank shaft gear plate to the correct specs for the tranny in question.  If you can securely mount the one from the old ICE then you can be confident of a good interface.

    Here is a link to a  motor for sale on ebay that is the type needed for this scale of conversion.  It was used in Ford's EV's.
