  1. NO  NO  NO  NO NO!   Laundry detergent has added ingredients in it to make it sudsy.  You'll never get all the suds out of the carpet and it will cause the carpet to attract dirt by leaving a residue in it. Don't ever put anything in a carpet cleaner that isn't made especially for carpet.

  2. NO.  Laundry detergent makes too much sudz, and will take forever to rinse out of your carpet.  In addition, some laundry detergents have enzimes and bleach,,,,which can damage the carpet.

Upholstry or Carpet cleaner,,,,,it's not that expensive.  Walmart is open 24 hours.

  3. That's all i use because my skin is sensitive to the carpet cleaner, just make sure you use some fabric softener with it, that helps it not be so foamy, but be ware that may cause you to have to clean it more often.

  4. Yes, I think laundry detergent is too thick, and would be too foamy. try mixing soap and water in a spray bottle, spray the most stained areas and kind of scrub it out, then go over it with hot water. That should help!

  5. I use it in mine all the time, but use very little as my first trial run produced bubbles that came out of the top of the cleaner lol, it does do a good job though, I even add a drop of bleach on carpets.
