  1. NO... you MUST HAVE A PASSPORT.. both to go TO the D.R. and to RETURN to the U.S... nothing else will work.  You won't even be able to buy the airline ticket without showing your passport at the counter.

    If you are a USA citizen you will need a passport. Otherwise you will have problems when you come back to the USA at the border.
