  1. Car tires have to withstand acceleration, braking and cornering forces, which boat trailer tires typically don't (with the exception of trailers with brakes).

Starting from a standstill, the car axle puts a twisting motion on the tire sidewall.

Cars have torsion axles holding the tires to the road while boat trailers typically have leaf springs.

What all this means is that while car tires take a lot of front & back and side to side stress, boat trailer tires take a lot of up & down stress (bouncing).

So trailer tires are made differently.  It's one reason most boat trailer tires are inflated to 50 PSI, while car tires are typically 30 to 35.

A lot of people no doubt have success with car tires on their trailers;  myself, I'm sticking with the trailer tires.

  2. Yes........as long as they are rated the same and have the same ply ratings as well.
