Can you use someone elses WINDOWS VISTA reinstallation DVD? help please?

My grandma just got a new laptop... and my computer has had a virus for a long time and the best way to fix it is to reinstall windows. When my grandma got her laptop a windows vista reinstallation DVD came with the computer. Could i use this to install on my computer? Please only helpfull answers only..Thankss in advance!

  1. Yes, you can. Before proceeding you first need to have at hand the product key from your own computer. This key (a string of numbers and letters) will be required during the installation. It is normally found in a sticker somewhere in your computer.


  2. Do you have Vista and just need a disk because you lost yours?  If not I would use your own disk.  Not all computers can run Vista.

  3. Only if your computer came with vista , then there would be a code for the operating system listed on a lable somewhere on the case. This code is entered during the set up of the OS. You could use your code with a different disk other than what was used to install the orignal OS.

    You cannot use the code (COA) from your grandma's computer. A code is only good for 1 pc . and when you activate windows microsoft would know you are trying to use a code that is already in use .

  4. Well it depends. If your computer was windows Vista before than yes. But if it was Windows XP or anything else there's a chance it will probably work but then it might not work because your computer has to be compatible. Oh and If you purchased a PC in the last two years, chances are good that you can run Windows Vista
