Question:

Can you use speaker wire connectors on a spring clip speaker?

I'm looking at getting a set of speakers that uses spring clip connectors. Obviously thats not the ideal connection but price is a factor. I want to use flat speaker wire. However, it appears as if flat speaker must terminate in to a connector. Is it possible to put a connector post in to a spring clip?

  1. Generally you can just twist the copper strands and insert.  But 12 ga wire can be a bit too thick.

Radio Shack sells some 2-piece "Pin" connectors that work well for spring clips. Un-s***w the back and insert the copper wires up the barrel. Fold the copper strands over the lip and s***w on the top part.  Just make sure to cut the copper strands short enough that nothing sticks out.

  2. You should be able to twist up the copper ends of the flat wire and terminate them to the spring clip.

You can also take a small strip of regular speaker wire, and jump it between the flat wire and your speaker, using almost any type of connector.
