Question:

Can you use standard grips for irons on hybrids?

This may seem like a stupid question, but I don't know much about club making.

I'm planning on re-gripping my irons, which are Titleist DCI 762's, but I play with Cleveland Halo hybrids for my 3 and 4 irons. Will standard iron grips work with my hybrids? All my irons, including the hybrids, have True Temper Dynamic Gold stiff shafts in them. I plan on regripping with Winn DSI AVS v-17's.

I figure standard grips will work, but I keep finding grips specifically for hybrids on ebay, so I just want to make sure. I want to buy a set of 13 grips on ebay so I can re-grip all of my clubs, including my Taylor Made Burner, my Tour Exotic fairway woods, and my cleveland wedges. I plan on having them installed at my local Golfsmith.

Thanks!

Parker

  1. Yes.  Grips are grips.  For example, if you use jumbo grips on your irons, you can use them on your hybrids as well.

  2. Parker, the answer is yes. You can use the same grips for your hybrids. You have an impressive selection of golf clubs. Well thought out and definitely players clubs. That being said, be careful when regripping your Titleist 762 irons. The 762 was one of my favorite Titleist iron models, and I bequeathed them to my brother when Titleist sent me the 755 irons, and now they have sent the AP2. Make sure your grips are heavy enough. I am not familiar with Winn grips, as I still use the Golf Pride cords because of the weight. Part of the beauty of the 762 iron is the weight at the grip end. Frankly, I would regrip them with the same grip the manufacturer used, or something close. Golfsmith lists the weight of grips in grams. Good luck. Play well.

  3. There are no such thing as specific hybrid grips.  A sales ploy methinks. The only rule is that you may not use a putter grip on a driver, irons, hybrids etc. So the only question for you is size and texture of grip. A trip to a golf store with a Ping or similar fitting system will sort you in this regard. 15 years experience in the trade. Good Luck.

  4. Yes. As long as you feel very comfortable with it & the most important thing is, with it, you make the best shots, everytime you swing your favorite clubs in hand. Hybrids were perfect inventions. I'm very glad they invented them. Please don't stop inventing clubs, they make Golf very Perfect Sport.

  5. I don't see any reason why not.  Ask the golfsmith.

  6. The answer to your question is Yes!  Have the guy at Golfsmith check your hand for sizing and wraps required.

  7. I regrip all my clubs with the same grips. There's no problem with that, assuming they all have the same shaft diameter. But since most of the grip companies make the same models in different diameters, there's no problem even with that. Just pick the right ones and GolfSmith will get it right.

Or you could save some money, have some fun and do it yourself. I have instructions here.

Just get one of GolfSmith's grip kits.

  8. Ya man you can use all of the grips for anyone of your clubs with the exception of maybe your putter.  Putters are the only exception because some have square shafts, but very few.  Also, it really isnt that hard to regrip clubs yourself.  All you need is a razorblade, some acetone, some masking tape, a vice, and the ability to see straight and you can do it.  You can buy the kits at any golf store, but i think for the money it is just worth it to have golfsmith do it.  If you mess up, it can be a big headache...

  9. You can use any round grip on all your clubs. The one thing to look out for is the core size. it is the value that says the inner Diameter of the grip. Standard sizes are .600" and .580" Most standard product will have a .600" Grip, if you fold over the end of the grip you should see a number and letter combo such as 60R or 58R which is the grip "size". If there is no letter next to the number then it has a rib or reminder. (the R stands for round or no reminder). If the club has a 60R grip and you put a 58R grip, that is like adding 2 extra wraps of tape or making it a little thicker. This may or may not be a good thing because if the grip is thicker then it could make it harder to turn over. Also as stated before the weight of the grip can be important, because when you re-grip it can also effect your swing weight. I hope this helps if you have anymore questions you can always email.

  10. same diamiter great choice in grips factory installed grips are not the best quality to begin with . ask the installer to measure tour hands , and inquire about weather you need extra wraps on your grips . may seem like a small matter , but it will help your game , with right sized grip . minor thing major affect ball flight . have good season
