Using the usual audio in connections on the back of a TV could you use the TV speakers as a centre speaker? I'm a bit short of space.

  1. I dont see any reason why you cant.

You'll have to split you scart and use the video aux input for the picture too though. That way the scart only supplies the picture and your Dolby 5.1 front centre supplies the sound.

The only downside I can think of is that if your TV is  a CRT then the Aux video inputs dont have the best of picture qualities usually...

    You may get lucky!

Let me know how you get on.

    Regards,

  2. You could, but the quality of tv speakers stinks compared to even a $20 speaker.  It would sound MUCH better with a speaker that is comparable to your other speakers.

  3. Sure, just make sure the setting for surround sound on the tv is off.

  4. You can, but it will sound very odd.

Whilst each of the other four speakers will produce the specific signal sent to them, the TV speaker will reproduce ALL the surround effects, dialogue effects and main speaker sounds at once.

It will just sounding echoey and strange.  Try it - you'll hear that I'm right.
