Hi!! I'm thinking about getting a guinea pig, but I'm on a budget and can't afford expensive bedding. Is it okay to use towels as bedding? Or should I use hay and wood shavings?

  1. ur not supposed 2, and i won't reccomend it, but i guess, sure?

they just might swallow and get sick.

  2. sure as long as you wash the towels like 3 times a week!

  3. try tp yes towel is fine but should be changed daily cedar is deadly as are afew other wood types  unscented toilet paperis cheapest disposable beddig

  4. it wont hurt, but you will find that guinea pigs will chew and scratch the towels. they will get dirty very quickly.

hay or straw are better than shavings. most shavings are dusty (the dust free ones are expensive) and the dust can cause respiratory problems in thier small lungs.

you could also try shredded paper, most offices are happy to give it away.

a good thick layer of newspaper under whatever you use will create insulation against heat and cold and will absorb moisture.

    enjoy ur new pet!

  5. ya they are way better than bedding cause they don't have all of the dust and my guinea pig like them much better cause of the softness. they love to go lie on their sides and the popcorn when i change the blankets and put their favorite extra soft ones in. They aren't that hard to keep clean if you just take out the old blanket and put a new on in every day (it makes cleaning the cage so much easier)

  6. yes it is very affective but hard to clean up !! i have tryed it before.

  7. well bedding isn't expensive but if you want you could use a towel but beware that ur piggie will chew it up so its ripped up
