The adapter with ring capacitor would be needed for some U.K. models which still use a 3-wire connection, but an increasing number of phones here are using a simple 2-wire connection with an RJ11 connection on the phone itself.  In this case, you could simply replace the modular cord.   Have a look at the telephone end of the cord; if it has just two contacts in the center positions of the plug, then an RJ11-RJ11 cord in the States will enable it to work without an adapter.

    Caller ID functions will not work in the U.S. since the data is sent in a different format, and a few other functions built-in to some phones won't work properly, e.g. a flash ("recall") button  often does not work due to different timing requirements of the flash.
