Can you use virgin olive oil instead of vegetable oil while backing

I started using EVOO a while back. I actually prefer the EVOO taste in everything I bake nowadays, and everyone that eats it loves it.. I ran out a while back and used vegetable and it tasted like it was missing something. It is much cheaper to use vegetable oil though.

I just made brownies and used Extra Virgin Olive Oil because I didn't realize I was out of vegtable oil. They just came out of the oven and I licked the toothpick and I could already taste the EVOO. On a 1-10 scale of perfect brownies. I'd say the EVOO drops the taste from a 10 brownie to a 6-7. Still edible just not that classic taste. I just googled it to see if anyone else had made the same mistake I did, and found this. So I figured I'd add my two cents.

YES!!! YOU CAN!!! Don't listen to the people who say you can't. Obviously you can. I've done it.  Is it recommended is the real question.

Does it taste different? no
Is it more expensive? no
Is it healthier? yeah, but if you're having brownies are you really worried?

Recommended? no - only for price difference.
Can you? YES! If you are in a pinch go for it! (Or if you really care about that small fraction of health you gain)

We just did this by ACCIDENT (teen daughter was doing it by herself) and the batter tastes REALLY BAD.  We are going to cook it and will let you know if the cooking makes it any better!

I am in Spain and I want to make box brownies for my host family... but all they have is a dark green extra virgin olive oil... will this work as a substitute to the vegetable oil called for in the recipe!?

yes you can.... a lot of people say it makes it taste different.... but i make all of my cakes, brownies, and muffins with extra virgin olive oil and so far no one has complained about the taste.... and I dont notice a difference either.... and its much healthier!!!! but if you prefer you can use melted butter as well....

yes you can use olive oil, i use olive oil for all my cooking, it is better for you.
