Can you use your Oyster card in Holland and the rest of Europe?

We are going on holiday and were wondering if we can use our Oyster card in Europe.

  1. No sorry but the EU didn't get as far as common transport policies (including fares and discounts), so you can't use it outside the UK sorry

    The plus side though is that generally public transport is as high (or argueably higher) in the Netherlands that in the UK, and also a lot cheaper if I look at train prices for both.  In NL the price for a standard 2nd class ticket is the same if you book it 2 months, 2 weeks, 2 days or 2 minutes ahead.......... very different to the exhorbatant "last minute" fares I paid last time I went to the UK!

    So you will have to pay normal prices, but don't worry too much.  You will probably find them cheaper than you would think
