Can you use your college id as a bus pass?

I go to Pierce college (in LA) and I wanted to know if one could use their college id as a student bus pass. Some people have told me that you can but I can't be sure yet. Can anyone who is familiar with the Los Angeles Metro help?

A college ID would allow you to obtain a reduced price bus pass with some transit providers in the LA area but would not in that of itself permit you to ride without buying an actual monthly bus pass.
