Can you view an appraisal online?

Thinking of buying a house, an appraisal was done 2 mos ago. Is an appraisal public domain and is there a website where we might view it? We can always ask our realtor, but I was just wondering.

  1. No one can see it other then who ordered it and you can not even find out what it says since you were not involved in the transaction in any way.


  2. Appraisals are not public record.  

  3. Appraisals are not public record, and they belong to the person or organization which paid to have the appraisal performed.  No one is entitled to see said appraisal, other than the person or entity which paid for same.

  4. A appraisal is not a matter of public record and is owned by the lender by Federal Law (the person or company that ordered it, even it you paid for it you do not own it. Your realtor has no access to it or has ever see it. There is no way for you to get a copy unless you were the lenders client and then you would have to request it within 30 days from the lender.

  5. I 'm not sure about your state, but in ILL when you pay for the appraisal- you are entiled to the copy of the report from your lender- ask them and they will give you the copy. You can't find a copy on any public record website.
