  1. Hello J.

I don't see why  you can't volunteer for your local EMS, as long as you get the proper training. I started my medical career as a volunteer with my local EMS and SAR (Search & Rescue) when I was only 12 years old.

Of course, you may not be allowed to become a licensed paramedic or emergency medical technician until you are 18, but nothing stops you from pursuing getting the training and working under the supervision of a licensed paramedic as an EMS volunteer.

If by any chance, you are not allowed to join your local EMS because of your age, then consider other valid options such as joining the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) or the Navy Sea Cadets (NSC).

The Seventh Day Adventist Church has a program called "Medical Cadets", which may be of interest to you. I am now a doctor, and I have worked closely with the CAP, NSC and the Medical Cadets for years, especially in times of disaster.

If there is something that those kids have proved quite well is that a well trained kid of your age can be a valuable resource when it comes to saving lives.
