  1. ha, well you can try. They do sell guinea pig leashes. It all depends on the personality of your guinea pig.

    mine wouldn't let me. (:

  2. I don't think so... That'd be a little weird

  3. actually yes you can you also go out and buy a special harness for them. i walk mine on occasions

  4. Actually they have leashes for small animals and my sister did try to train her guinea pig to cooperate with her and it did not work.  The little guy just didn't like the leash.  My sister was determined but you can't teach an old pig new tricks.  But if you are going to try it make sure you bring a tiny pooper scooper for those tiny poo bags.  = )

  5. Heck if you can walk a ferret then you can walk a Guinea Pig

  6. I am pretty sure you can. I mean I never thought dogs would be better dressed then humans so why not walk a guinea pig down the street!

  7. i do all the time.

the neighbors hate it when they use their yard though!

    watch out for that!

  8. yeah! i actually bought a guinea pig leash for mine and walk it around! seriously! its tie-died!

  9. Yes you can use string and a paper bag and shovel

  10. Well...with my personal experience I never have. I've always treated mine rather like a rabbit/hamster mix. I used to let mine run around in one of those balls, and had one of those big constructed tube houses, with the plastic tubes and tunnels. I used to let mine get outside by using an old dog pen for like a run-around play area.

I guess you could, just make sure it is safe from streets and other people's feet. And always pick it up at crosswalks!

  11. Well sort of......     they make leashes for guinea pigs......    but you pretty much take them out in your yard on the leash and let them hobble around on their own (the leashes are usually stretchy)......     but as far as taking them on a walk and having them keep up, not gonna happen!!!

  12. i know that this might sound a little strange but i acctually did that ( about 4,5 years ago) i had a g****a pig which i would take to the park etc... people will react a bit strange to it but forget about them

some piggies will do it others wont depends on thier personality

  13. You can walk it but it's not really a good idea. You can give it a little run in your room instead.

  14. Not really.

Guinea pigs fight to get out of their harnesses. (I would know, I've been there).

Really a guinea pig just likes to relax. I don't need to put mine in an enclosure or on a leash or anything. She just sits in the grass and nibbles on it.

  15. Buying the leash and harness was a PURE waste of money. Not only was it difficult to put on the pig, made it get stressed, and was hard to adjust- GUINEA PIGS ARE PREY ANIMALS. They will run at the slightest loud noise, strange environment, and can can get injured if they pull on the harness. I was stupid when i thought "Hey, maybe g-pigs are like dogs and can go on walks too!" WRONG.

It can be the worst mistake of your life giving your g-pig a walk. It can end with poisoning your pig, killing your pig, or losing your pig. It's just not worth the risk.

If you want to give your pig fresh air and grass to nibble on- build a pen, place your pig in it, and watch it so nothing gets to it. Walking a pig to look "cute" is not even a good enough reason.

    *gets off soap box*

  16. Yes, you can get the little harness that is for small dogs and you can teach one for leash walking.

On Animal Planet awhile back, a lady had all her guinea pigs leash trained and walked them every day, just like a dog.

good luck, make sure the harness is on them very good, they wiggle alot and can get loose from you...I would train the house first, so no chance of getting loose till really use to it

  17. sure you can.

  18. Well I wouldnt put it in a street cause their feet may get burned but other wise it sounds like a good idea! And the poo bags is a cute idea! And ya u can.

  19. No.

The main reason is that guinea pigs are not "adventurous". Something like a dog, is bold and loves new places. Guinea pigs are prey animals, and are extremely cautious when in new areas. Bringing it to new places regularly will be extremely stressful. It will not enjoy that at all.

The other part is that because they ar prey animals, they are very, very easy to spook. When outdoors, you can't control large noisy trucks, or other people's dogs for example, and anything can scare the daylights out of a little piggy. When cautious, they will freeze and camouflage. If they can't do that (which they won't be able to on a "walk") it will do the next thing, which is run for its life. If attached to a leash, it will tug the wrong way. You have no idea how many piggies actually suffered serious, paralyzing injuries after running while attached to a leash. The halter basically crushes them!

The other risk is them catching anything from outside. They can nibble on something, or an insect can bite them, and they can catch an illness or parasite.

In my oppinion, it's just a really unnecessary and foolish risk. Sure there are many people who do this without anything bad happening, but why would you do something that does not benefit the guinea pig in any way (so you are doing it for your own amusement, really) and leaves a risk of something happening to it.

  20. I would honest to goodness laugh my tail till I cried and my gut gave way if I saw that! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

At least let him roll around in a little plasic ball or something... but that COULD be a problem when they roll into the street and that 18-wheelers headed his way. yikes.

    :D

  21. prob. if you want but i wouldn't walk it on busy streets just because the are so small. just around the yard or something. =]

  22. Like legit. you CAN- but it has to be cloudy or at night because the sun isn't good for their eyes.

Please don't ask me how I know this (I'm a dog section regular-not rodent) :p

  23. Sure. I don't think the poo bags would be necessary though, since the things turds are the size of bread crumbs.

  24. they actually sell leashes, i bought one.  from my experience, it doesnt work well.  its hard to put on bc they squrim around and they barely move =]

  25. of course you can :) i used to take my hamster for walks in my backyard with this little leash and collar thing i got him. he loved it... especially cause i had a bunch of those clover things. i never took him like on a sidewalk or anything cause he was tiny but im sure youd be able to do it wiht a guinea pig although youll probably get stared at a lot. :D hope i helped! :D <3

  26. well when i had my guinea pig i let it out in our backyard to nibble on grass and feel the breeze. They acutally have little guinea pig harnesses and leashs at the petstore. I tried it but my guinea pig didn't like it. You can build a little pen outside for him to run around in nice weather if you want but i don't really think your guinea pig will walk walks.

P.S I've never seen guinea pig poo bags though lol. Or people walking guinea pigs but if you wanted you could. Good luck! =)

  27. you can walk a Ginny pig my uncle did that once weird i no.

  28. haha you can try.

i would. but i dont have a guinea pig.

  29. You can, but its much more fun to punt them across the street.

Relax animal rights activists....I'm only kidding.

    or am I???

  30. well i didnt use the poo bags however i used to take my guinea pigs for walks on leashes all the time. you just have to watch out for other animals if you are walking them outside

  31. yeah we had a guinea pig lead (leash you might call it) but all it did was make the d**n thing do backflips until we let it loose again. It got a bit stressed out...
