  1. Yes, after eleven years of going barefoot it's no problem, I actually like rough surfaces and gravel better than soft grass and sand.

  2. No, I live in Australia (The sand in summer can be very hot, and the ground is covered in Eucalyptus branches and nuts).

  3. I don't know if I can or not.

  4. no..

  5. yup, i've always walked on any surface barefoot including rocks on roadways - never bothered me (even as a little kid)

  6. No rocks hurt.

  7. Nope, it hurts when I walk on tree bark.

    My feet must be sensitive

  8. Pretty much, because I go barefoot most of the time so I am used to it

  9. yes because I always walk outside barefoot when the weather is nice

  10. Define hurt.  You can track someone walking barefoot across grass if you're looking hard enough.  Did it hurt the grass?  No, not unless the soil was quite saturated, in which case soil compaction would occur to some extent.

But people walking on tundra, barefoot or otherwise, can cause damage that may never heal.  The report below cites areas that were fenced off in 1959. Some of these areas show little or no sign of recovery today and may take centuries to heal.  And some desert areas have a fine crust to them that could be damaged even with the barefoot approach.  Cryptogams build soil by preventing erosion and adding nitrogen, preparing the ground for future plant communities. It can take 100 years to develop cryptogams but just a few footsteps to destroy them.

Treading lightly sometimes means not treading at all, or recognizing that if you do, there will be impacts.
