  1. Bottom Line Answer: No

The digital converter box, as "WIRES" has correctly stated, will allow an analog TV to receive the new DIGITAL-ONLY tansmissions OFF THE AIR from your local stations. They will stop broadcasting ANALOG signals (that you current TV requires) and start broadcasting only DIGITAL signals. So the Digital converter box will convert these new Digital signals from the antenna to ANALOG signals for your TV.

Direct TV and cable companies currently supply Analog and Digital TV Signals; but mostly they are from NON-BROADCAST sources; this means they are not off-the-air, and so cannot be received by the digital to analog converter boxes.

If you want Cartoon Network, ESPN, USA, A&E and other non-broadcast networks, you will have to rely on either a cable or satellite provider.

  2. You should check out www.digitaltvconverterbox.com They have some good videos and info on this.

  3. yes, of course

  4. The digital converter boxes are for local air signals.  The TV stations must shut off analog transmitters and switch to digital transmissions as of Feb, 2009.  The digital converter box allows you to continue to use your analog TV and not have to buy a new digital TV.  You don't need one of these boxes to watch your cable or satellite TV.  They won't help you with them.
