  1. Again, lite soy is the best- it has all the flavour and very little salt. Just use less, or mix it with another ingredient before cooking with it- like if your using mirin or cooking wine mix it with that so it distributes evenly.

  2. No. It will not taste good.

Instead, purchase the low sodium soy sauce and use less.

  3. Yes, you can water it down. It will taste watered down, though. If you like it that way, that's okay. If not, try adding some vinegar or spices to pep it up a bit.

  4. Not recommended. The flavor would also be diluted.

There are excellent quality lower sodium soy sauces on the market with almost no difference in flavor between them and traditional soy sauce - half the sodium in low salt versions (only about 550mg per tablespoon).

  5. Hi! Depending on the use, I think it's fine to do so. When I marinate foods, I add water, wine, and a bit of brown sugar as well. If I'm using it as a dipping sauce, I dilute it with a bit of rice vinegar. Personally I now find pure soy sauce too salty...it's  just a matter of getting used to it I guess!

  6. Yes, you can if you like, but you can also just use a little less. Really you should not be using very much, just a touch to boost the flavour of the dish rather than a whole lot. My cookbook from Japan advises that not even the strongest soy sauce flavoured broth should have more than a spoonful of soy sauce per person, and on the milder end a dish could have as little as half a teaspoon each.

Another point: beware when looking for 'lite' soy sauce - 'light' and 'dark' are used as descriptions of different types of sauce intended for different cooking uses, and 'light' in this sense is not what you want when considering sodium levels. 'Light' and 'dark' soy sauces do not just differ in strength but in actual flavour, and while the dark has a stronger taste it is often the light which is saltier, while the dark is sweeter.

However, lower sodium soy sauces are available; it is this you should look for rather than 'light'.

  7. yes... You can water down soy sauce.

It will be fine and taste fine!

You can also try a lite soy sauce, with less sodium.

I think this might ressolve the issue for you.

Heres a good website for you!

Its about low sodium soy sauce!

    Hope that helps
