Can you wear chacos in the ocean?

I am going to the beach in 2 days and I hate walking in the ocean because it feels weird. And everytime I wear those dorky water shoes, they come off and they're gone forever. I was wondering if it is ohkay to wear chacos in the water if they're completely tightened and stuff.

According to the Chaco website, they're designed with river guides in mind, so I'd expect that they would be fine in the ocean.

You might consider rinsing them well with fresh water to get the salt out of the straps, though.
