  1. Yep you can ride in wellies, but as you get more experienced it is a good idea to get some proper riding boots. Wellies can rub you when riding so make sure you wear long socks underneath! Also they should have a heel between 1.3cm and 2.5cm high. They can get stuck in the stirrup easier too, so proper riding boots would be a worthwhile investment.

Riding boots aren't that dear, some are even cheaper than wellingtons! In the UK the prices for short jodphur boots can start from £10-11, and of course you should look in your local tack shop when the sale starts ;)

  2. You can as long as there is some heel on the back and also make sure that the stirrup is wide enough to accommodate your foot safely, leaving about an inch on either side.  This is to enable you to kick free in case of emergency and lessens the likelihood of your foot getting stuck if you do fall off.  It is a surprisingly common thing that is forgotten in my experience.  People check and measure everything else, but forget the width of the stirrups!

  3. try for proper riding boots, there is a bigger risk of getting your foot stuck in the stirrups with wellies

  4. No

A proper riding boot must have smooth soles and a 1 inch heel at the least. Wellies do not.

It is a saftey issue. If you get dumped your foot could get stuck in the stirrup and not be able to slide through.

I suggest that you try rubber riding boots or vinyl which are much cheaper or go to second hand stores every time i have gone i have found either riding boots or boots that look and function just like riding boots.

also ask around or post an add for used but in good condition riding boots.

You don't have to have tall boots, paddock boots are fine as well.

But i would not suggest Wellies at all.

    Sorry

  5. you can wear wellies but they are very uncomfortable and tend to fall off when you ride without stirrup's and makes your riding look very messy.

When i ride i wear muckers and chaps

    (muckers ^)

you can get them in riding tack shops and some large Tosca stores like the new one is slough.

  6. Yeah you can as long as they have a small heel on them. Start saving for some boots, or look on eBay, you might find some cheaper there.

  7. No riding boots

  8. no the toes are the wrong shape so they wont fit in the stirrups very well and if you fall the will be stuck buy boots or somtimes stables have spare ones you borrow but when they dont have your size coz someone else has borrowed it you end up spending an age and being late for your lesson squeezing into tiny boots. buy your own its worth it. plastic long boots instead of leather are nnot expensive and nether are plastic short boots with cheap chaps

  9. ideally no riding boots are much safer and more comfortable not just for you but the horse too try rubber riding boots these are not too expensive and can last ages good luck

  10. i do in the winter all the time, to save my riding boots for the showing season in the summer!!

  11. Um, no. They aren't safe, next time you get a chance look at the different between the sole and heels of both a pair of wellies and riding boots. If you fall off wearing wellies there is a higher risk of your foot getting caught as you do not having a nice smooth surface like on the bottom of proper riding boots.

They are expensive but they are safe and they are used for a reason.

Save up a little and buy some proper riding boots, they're well worth the $$'s or £££'s depending where you are. : )

  12. I wouldn't recommend it - they are too wide and tend to get stuck.

Try looking on Ebay for used riding boots - very few people actually wear them out - they usually grow out of them.

  13. you can wear wellies but they need to be narrow enough to  fit in the stirrups and have a  heal. if you find horse riding boots expensive look on ebay ad trader friday ad for a good second hand pair, Wait until te tack shop sales. Long rubber riding bots tend to be cheaper (i saw a pair go for £2 on ebay god con.)! A cheaper option is jodhpur boots and chaps or just jodhpur boots. good luck !

  14. Sure, as long as they have a small heel so your foot doesn't slip through the stirrup.  Additionally they should not be crammed into the stirrup either.  They should slip into and out of the stirrup with ease.  That is for safety.  You don't want your boot to stick in the stirrup if you fall off.

  15. you can but its not the best :) try ebay and look for jodhpur boots cuz they are usually less than long boots!

  16. do you have you're own horse?or are you at a riding school? because i'm pretty sure that most don't let you ride in wellies, but can provide you with some for the lesson. if you have you're own horse, then i don't see why not :) i ride in mine sometimes...

as for price, try ebay or somewhere for cheaper, 2nd hand boots. you should be able to get some that aren't bashed up, but the person has just out-grown them.

  17. Technically you shouldn't, but most people do anyway as long as there is a heel on the boot, just make sure that there is something between the boot and your skin, otherwise you'll get bad rubs! (trust me I know from experience...)

  18. yes you can, but they are very uncomfortable and quite unsafe, as you could get your foot stuck in the stirrup. Do you know what muckers are? they are like wellies but stop about an inch after your ankle, they are partly designed to ride in and so much more comfortable, and are cheaper than proper riding boots.

    Have a browse on ebay

  19. if they fit in the stirrup i guess buuut just so you know a lot of local tack shops have consignmnet and if you can find your size on consignment it's a whole lot cheaper or look for the non leather brand boots. but yeah wellies will most likely work.

  20. if you are going to do this try to make sure the grips on the bottom arent too deep and they have a small heel, the only reason i mention the dips is that they can sometimes get stuck on the stirrup.

  21. I don't see why not. They're not ideal, but as long as they fit in your stirrups you should be okay.
