  1. Buddy, welding iron to steel is roughly equivalent to welding iron to iron- steel is usually iron with carbon in it. I'd try it, but test it first, and go slowly. It may have a tendancy to become brittle if rushed so fast a marked difference exists between alloys.

  2. sure! some use things like thermite to weld, it just makes iron fuse with 2 pieces of steel.
