  1. From my experience, you do not need anything other than your identity. I am not an American, all I needed was my passport to withdraw the money from one of my long term certificates from one of the major banks in the United States. I didn`t even have the original paper proof of my CD. Of course, if the time of maturity is not fulfilled, you will be penalized by the bank.

  2. If you do not have the actual certificate that was given at the time of opening the account, then there is additional paperwork and charges to withdrawl money from the CD.

If the account is in your name with your mother as guardian, then she will have to be present to withdrawl money.

If the account is a joint account with only 1 signature required, then you would be able to withdrawl money.

  3. If the CDs are in your name only and you are at least 18 years old, you don't need anyone's permission to withdraw them.  Sounds like that may not be the case here, however...

  4. If the CD is in your name only, not a joint account, then you can go to the bank that has the account and with identification, withdraw the funds without the actual certificate. If it is a joint account that says "or" between the names and not "and" , you can also withdraw the funds.

If the account is registered as "and" , you will need your mother to agree.

If you do not know how the accounts are registered, you should just go to the bank and ask to withdraw the funds from your CD's. With your social security number, they will be able to determine how the accounts are registered and tell you which you can withdraw.
