Can you work before you get your national insurance number?

if you are about to turn 16 in the uk, can you start applying for jobs even if you havent got your own national insurance number yet?

Under the table,but thats not legal or moral.Since you got to eat thou doing a few jobs off the books wont throw the goverment in to a tissy.

Nobody will call you is you dont put down your number,and I dont suggest you make one up.Just let people know you are waiting for your number,and you need to moke some money untill then.

Count it in your taxes once you get your number look in your local news paper
