Can you write a check and deposit it in the same account if you have no money in the account to being with?

It is called kiting. It is illegal.

No Way!!!!!!!  It is called Kiting and the bank knows to look for it.  Even if you cashed it at a check place, deposited the money then did that again in a cycle.  The bank knows what to look for and they will cancel your account and can even report you to the law.
