Can you write of gas as a college expense?

my friend drives to and from college and uses a lot gas, so can that be a tax write-off (excemption)

  1. If your friend is a student.  The cost of the gas is not a write-off.  If your friend is a college employee such as a professor even if he is in the business of teaching,  the drive to and from college would not be a write-off since it is a non-deductible commuting cost.

    college costs are not deductible if you're full-time students

    now if you're working full-time and taking classes to improve your current trade or job skills, that's a different matter
