I am working at a fast food place while it is summer vacation, and we are getting a lot a fake bills recently.

I know in the US I think stores can confiscate the bills and call Secret Service? I am not sure.

But in Canada we can't confiscate it. What most of the managers do when an employee brings it to their attention is they write "fake" on the front and hand it back to them telling them we can not except it. Can you do this? If the bill is not fake, they could just bring it to a bank and they can judge it and give them a new one.

Sometimes we will call the police who just forward us to a tips line, and we never hear back from them. But can you do this? The customer usually gets REALLY pissed when you do that.

  1. i guess if you already do it it's ok?

  2. I bet they do!!

In some cases the customer might have received the fake note innocently, and your marking it as fake robs him of the value of it. (Of course if it is the forger, he'd be upset as well).

If you are writing it in real ones, you are breaking some law or regulation against defacing banknotes

So how do you make sure they are really fake? home-made inkjet printed ones would be a give-away but how do you pick the others?

Calling the tips line is a good idea, if there is a sudden rash of fake notes, as it alerts them to a pattern. They would not be interested in going after the person with 1 or 2 of them, but seeing a pattern would get them watching for the distributors.

  3. No, you need to call the police.

  4. Hm , I too work in a fastfood restaurant, but have never done the procedure you have done. Usually I check the bills we recieve when I am on the till, and give a good look at it, if it looks fake, and you can pinpoint which key areas are fake, then I would just hand the money back to the customer, and tell them we cannot except counterfeit money, instead of writing " fake " on it, doing it this seems more professional seeing as you are working with other people, and attending differen customers. Just tell them that you can't accept it, and you never know sometimes , these people can be just ordinary people who do not know the different between a fake, and legitimate bill. You should read, and study a book for bills, seeing if they are fake or not, ask your manager or supervisor who deals with the money to see if they have any books or any tips to see if the money is real or not.

    - take it ez & and try not to p**s off those customers will ya ! haha kidding.

  5. I work in a restaurant and I've only received counterfeit money once to my knowledge. Most customers unwillingly have it, as they aren't the ones who produced it. I know if you get caught producing it in the US you are pretty much screwed though.
