  1. My daughter was 8.

But what a coincidence...I'm teaching my 9 year old son to shower on his own and just tonight he finally mastered it.

He wet his hair, put shampoo, then rinsed it,then washed his whole body, then brushed his teeth....Yes it took about 5 attempts and he finally did it.

I thought it would be pretty hard and thought it would take a lot of persisting, but he actually loves it.I've been lucky though cause he has always loved his showers and by him doing it himself he ends up staying longer.I did stay and watch and guide him,but he did it with ease.

As you know,my son has Autism...so if he can do it so can your daughter...you just have to be strong and let her sulk..she will get there eventually. We have to let go.  :(..it s sad but has to be done.

Oh and the joy of telling them to go have a shower and you dont have to lift a finger....think of the rewards..lol

Take baby steps and let her do one thing at a time on her own..she will get there.

    Good Luck!!!!

  2. I learnt to shower on my own at 5! Anyway, goggles are a good idea. another alternative is have your daughter stand with her back towards the shower and tilt her head backwards when washing her hair, this way she won't get water in her eyes, kinda like when you get your hair washed at the hair salon. Tell me if that works.

  3. i learned at 7

  4. Every kid is different.  My children took baths until they started high school and then started to use the shower.  My youngest one hates water in his face.  The older they get and the more concerned about their appearance they are, they will learn.  I grew up in a house without a shower and so I've always taken baths and washed my hair in a sink.  I haven't been stoned to death for it.

  5. She's a spoiled one.  Time to really toughin' up her and make her do what u have taught her.  Build her now b4 society gets to her.

  6. My little stepdaughter is 10yrs old and cannot shower by herself. She didnt even know how to turn the thing on LOL I showed her where the shampoo and body wash were and she used the body wash in her hair instead of shampoo. she had to call me in to wash it out of her hair LOL sheactually asked me the other day could she get into the bath with my 15mth old daughter instead of having a shower! I just keep encouraging her to do it alone. Explain EVERY teeny, tiny step in detail and repeat it so much she actually laughs!!! Keep trying she'll get there LOL

  7. I started at 7 but my brothers 11 and still in a bath. Try giving her goggles she may get modest soon and want to do it herself anyway. If she is really frightened of water in her eyes it could be a phobia and consider taking her to a theripist

  8. I haven't seen my son in the bath since he was about 7. My daughter a little older, maybe 9 or 10, because she's less embarassed about her body and also because she's got long hair which is harder to wash.

  9. OUr boys are 10-7yrs old and they can take a bath and shower by them selves... except for our 7 yr olds hair he gets really clean... so i would say by 7 yrs old they should be able to get clean ...

  10. As soon as they can turn the lawn sprinkler on....they're old enuff....

    He he he he.

  11. My children are 10 & 12 and have been showering on their own since they were about 7. It was right about the age they became self consicous about their naked body.

  12. Sorry to say but i think you are coddling her.   Get her googles or something but she should be on her .  I was 7 or 8 in elementry showering on my own and i got dressed on my own.  By 12 i did my own my laundry and ironing

  13. My eldest is 7 and he washes himself and his hair, but we get the water right first. I don't trust him yet with that one! Then he just turns them off when he's ready.

  14. What's wrong with that??

I still get help in the shower, because lets face it, we will all try and save a little water.

Give her some Goggles, and tell her it's time to be a big girl. I still wash all my kids in the bath, it's less hassle. You could just give her a bath, and then she won't have that problem.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  15. My daughter is 7 and she showers all by herself. Gets the towel, runs the water, shampoos & conditions her hair, hangs up her towel and gets her pajamas on.

  16. If it helps put on some goggles so that she wont be afraid,

and i started myself at 11, and also my younger sister, she has to learn by now. She will be fine! :D don't worry
