Also, can it leak out slowly instead of a sudden gush? Sorry I know I'm asking a lot of questions.

  1. yes, mine broke with 2 of my babies and i had no contractions and needed pitocin to bring them on the first time, but the 2nd time i did contract on my own, but it took awhile.

  2. Yeah alot of people (including me at the start) thought it would be a big gush, but it can slowly leak out (like me) But yes your water can break before contractions do as it's one of the signs of early labor.

  3. Yes to both.

My water breaking was a huge gush though BUT I had very minimal contractions.  I wasn't even sure that's what they actually were until I got to the hospital and they hooked me up to the monitor.  Then I would see them showing up on the screen but I wouldn't be feeling them.  I ended up having a c-section planned soon after I got to the hospital so I never made it long enough to find out what an actual contraction feels like....darn. ; )

  4. My water leaked and finally after 32h with no contractions, I was induced.  THEN the contractions started!!  :)

  5. Yes, it can break without contractions.  Yes, it can just leak slowly.  The big unexpected gush is more what you would see in a movie and not reality.  And there are some of us whose water has never broken at all on it's own.  Even with my last son, it was right before he was delivered that my midwife broke it.

  6. Yup and it can be a dribble or gush

  7. Yes your waters can break without any contractions coming. It's a common sign of premature labor. Also there is not always a sudden gush. You can leak out your waters for a few hours. If you think your water have broken you should go to the hospital as a baby is in danger of infections when not protected by the amniotic fluid. Good Luck x

  8. yes to both and if you think your water is leaking or has broken you need to be seen immediately the amniotic sack is what protects the baby from infections if its open that can be very dangerous it is a simple swab test to tell if it is leaking

  9. With my 1st my water broke at 37 weeks with no contractions at all and it gushed everywhere. My best friend's water broke with her last one with no contractions at all but hers just kind of leaked out and wasn't very much.

  10. When I was Pregnant, my waters broke while at work.  It was a bit of a gush.  After the initial gush, it was continually coming out.  My baby was born 6 weeks early.

I didn't have any contractions before hand.  About an hour later, I started getting contractions, but then they stopped.  After being in hospital for 4 days, I was induced.
